Construction projects are increasingly suffering from delays in recent times due in part to COVID-19 as well as a range of other factors. This has subsequently resulted in cost overruns and disputes concerning who bears responsibility for the time and cost implications of project delay.

So, how do we unravel the complexities of analysing and demonstrating responsibility for delays in projects? In this session, the presenter will discuss the issue of delay, with particular focus on the following areas:

• Introduction to Planning and Programming & The Role of a Programming and Delay Expert,

• Understanding Delay Analysis & Accepted Methods of Delay Analysis,

• Selecting a Method for the Analysis and

• What Records are important to be maintained for a robust Analysis.

The presentation aims to be an interactive presentation where participants are actively encouraged to interact, sharing their experiences through each one of the subsections below:

  • Introduction to Planning and Programming & The Role of a Programming and Delay Expert

Participants will be provided with an overview of the difference between planning and programming, and the role of the Delay Expert through a tribunal, and the challenges that the Expert is faced with in tribunal.

  • Understanding Delay Analysis & Accepted Methods of Delay Analysis

This session will cover the various Accepted Methods used at the tribunal, looking at the following.

  • Method of Analysis

  • Analysis Type

  • How the Critical Path is determined

  • How the Delay Impact is determined and

  • The minimum requirements for the analysis to be carried out

  • Selecting a Method for the Analysis

The participants will learn how the Delay Expert selects and applies the most appropriate method for the analysis at tribunal.

  • What Records are important to be maintained for a robust Analysis

The session in concluded by explaining firsthand from a Delay Experts experience what records are important to be maintained for a robust analysis. This session will provide an insight to what records they need to be maintain.
