The PM Podcast ELITE TALK 2026, held on May 5 at the innovative facilities of FUJIFILM Business Innovation HK, marked a significant milestone for Hong Kong's construction and technology sectors. The evening served as a masterclass in the digital transformation of the built environment, bringing together a distinguished group of industry leaders to explore the immediate impact of artificial intelligence on modern infrastructure.

The core of the discussion moved beyond theoretical concepts, positioning "AI+" as a present-day necessity for the industry. The session navigated the complex landscape of digital transformation by focusing on how intelligent automation is currently streamlining professional workflows and offering practical, real-world solutions to long-standing engineering challenges. A major portion of the dialogue was dedicated to the human element of this shift, specifically addressing the evolution of project management roles and the critical need for talent upskilling to keep pace with a rapidly advancing tech-driven economy.

This comprehensive 360-degree view of the industry was made possible by an exceptional panel of experts. Under the guidance of moderator Ir Tom Chung, Chairman of the AAPM Hong Kong Chapter's IT Division, the audience gained insights from Hon Duncan Chiu, representing the Technology and Innovation functional constituency of the Legislative Council, alongside Mr. Karel Au of CEO, Autotoll, Prof. Jack Cheng from Professor and Associate Head in Civil and Environmental Engineering, HKUST, and Sr Thomson Lai of Managing Director, Digital, AECOM. Their collective expertise provided a rare look into the strategic integration of AI across government policy, academic research, and large-scale digital engineering.

The success of the event was a direct reflection of a thriving industry ecosystem. This collaborative effort was jointly organized by the American Academy of Project Management (AAPM) Hong Kong Chapter and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Information Technology Division, with additional support from the BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) Hong Kong Section. As the industry continues to drive the digital transformation of construction forward, this ELITE TALK has set a high benchmark for future podcasts and professional exchanges. Those interested in the ongoing evolution of smart construction are encouraged to join the community for future executive summaries and upcoming events.
